AUGIE TIETZ PROPOSES WAY TO ATTRACT NEW BUSINESSES
In the recent mayoral forum sponsored by the Watertown Chamber of Commerce, Common Council President Augie Tietz, candidate for Mayor, proposed using a State of Wisconsin-sponsored property system to promote Watertown to potential new businesses. LOIS, or LocationOne Information System, is designed as a search resource for business and business site agents to obtain data about communities and the buildings and sites available in the communities. Location One gives business information about workforce, demographics, growth statistics and educational data. Transportation amenities such as Watertown's rail and the Highway 26 corridor. By visiting www.jcedc.net, the website of the Jefferson County Economic Development Consortium, business leaders can view potential business locations in Watertown through the LOIS system.
"The internet is the first place business leaders go when considering a new location," said Tietz. "Unfortunately, not many Watertown properties are listed in LOIS right now. The listing for our prime new business location, the West Industrial Park, wasn't current, which I have addressed. As Mayor, I would work aggressively with LOIS and similar systems to make sure Watertown is putting its best face to the outside world when business comes calling."
Tietz went on to stress the importance of business development to the future of Watertown. "In order to maintain our quality of life, we need to keep our city services affordable. Attracting new business is essential to building our tax base and keeping tax rates lower. Watertown has many attractive qualities for business, including a solid workforce and rail access, but the internet is the place we need to be if we want to compete."
Working with Dennis Heling of the Jefferson County Economic Development Consortium, Tietz is organizing a workshop to educate property and building owners, realtors, council members and general public as to what LOIS is and how to get information posted to it.
